Before we dive in, let get somethings straight.
Why do you want to become a blogger?
Whatever your reasons for wanting to become a blogger, make sure they are the right reasons because you will need it to inspire you along the way.
Your reason should be strong enough to keep you motivated when the going gets tough.
Believe me, the blogger’s journey is not an all smooth bread and butter journey. It sometimes gets very tough, and only the tough gets going.
You’ll require a lot of discipline and entrepreneurship spirit to be a successful blogger. As a blogger you become your own boss. You no longer have a boss to tell you what to do or how to do it (oh, you’ve never had a boss? That’s alright, you still need to be disciplined all the same).
You become responsible for every action you take. Whatever action you take determines your faith as a blogger.
If you’re disciplined enough to draw a work schedule and keep to it, you’ll be successful. On the other hand, it will be a different ball game if you decide not to work hard and regularly procrastinate.
Most bloggers start a blog with the intention of being successful, but many get frustrated and throw in the towel.
The job of a blogger involves a million and one things. You have to have the basic skills required to run a successful blog.
For example, you need good writing skills, this I believe is a primary skill that every blogger needs. You’re expected to deliver insanely great content to your readers. This will make them lifelong readers of your blog.
There are millions of professional writers out there that are experts in their niches. Now ask yourself, what category do you belong to. Whatever your category, there is room for improvement. Spend time learning more.
Other skills you’ll need as a blogger to start and run a successful blog are: social media marketing , graphics, SEO, financial and wordpress management skills.
You also have to figure out the right niche for you and what to write about continuously. Great, this is where you really have to get it right. Your chosen niche should hold a lot of interest to you.
With having to learn so many things as a blogger just getting your feet wet in blogging, there is a likelihood of giving up if you are in a niche that is not able to hold your attention for long.
If you’re are really passionate about being a blogger, you really need to give it all it takes. You’ve to make up your mind to be a successful blogger, and not give up halfway no matter the obstacle on the way.
Like the athlete that sets his eyes on the gold medal and nothing else”ll do, you have to train, train and train. Look for mentors and coaches to teach you what to do (let me help you).
To become a blogger and run a successful blog, you need to have the right mindset that leads to the right altitude in blogging.
Have an altitude of putting your readers first before seeking financial reward. Give, give and give to them. Help people in your niche, be generous with your knowledge and you’ll eventually get rewarded for it.
It may not be easy at first to keep giving when you are not getting monetary rewards, but there are other ways to get rewards.
I remember when I started out as a blogger, I did not consider monetizing my blog, (mind you, it was not because I deliberately set out not to monetize the blog, I did not know I could monetize it) but I learn’t this lesson I’m sharing with you today.
I kept writing, trying to proffer solutions and please my readers. To my amazement a reader wrote to me, saying he wanted to donate to the work I do on my blog. I also got a lot of people sharing my articles. I’m not asking you not monetise your site, but to deliver quality before expecting reward.
Ironically, this practice is the effective way to make money as a blogger from your blog.
